The San Francisco Conservation Corps (SFCC) was established as the first urban conservation corps in the country in 1983. SFCC has worked with over 5,000 young people aged 18 to 26 over the last 38 years by combining paid work experience along with educational attainment. SFCC’s mission is to motivate and connect youth with inspiring work, quality education, and a better future. SFCC’s paid work experience is in the areas of natural resources conservation management and recycling services. The San Francisco Conservation Corps offers young people opportunities to develop themselves, their academic abilities and marketable job skills while addressing community needs through service work. SFCC has grown from a basic education and training program into a robust academic, job training, work readiness and life skills experience for over 100 very low-income young adults each year. SFCC helps its aspirational youth earn their high school diploma through its charter school or pursue vocational or post secondary education and training. SFCC offers two paid orientation sessions a month and its corpsmembers start wage is $17.50 per hour.
