Understanding Trauma Workshop II, Sponsored by 3rd Street Youth Center and Clinic and BMAGIC

Last year, 3rd Street Clinic presented a workshop designed to provide  service providers with critical information, tools and support regarding the impact of trauma on our youth, each other and our agencies.

As a follow-up, we are offering a second workshop to continue exploring this theme, scheduled for Wednesday, September 26th, 2012, 10am-12:30, with lunch being provided, and hosted by 3rd Street Youth Center and Clinic. Potential topics to be discussed include the various levels of trauma, ranging from individual to community, and how this impacts agency and organizational capacity to address these issues among clients. Also, addressing how trauma carries over and vicariously impacts service providers will be a topic covered in order to understand the importance of self-care.

If you have any suggestion on issues pertaining to trauma, we’d love to hear your concerns to incorporate them in this Fall’s Trauma training! We welcome your feedback as to possible topics to include, issues you have or currently experience during addressing these issues with clients, and any other suggestions that can make this training relevant and helpful to your current roles at your organization.

Please RSVP with Fernando Enciso-Marquez (BMAGIC) at fernando@bayviewmagic.org or 415-558-2488. In addition, you can reach Aliya Sheriff (PsyD/ Therapist) at (415) 822-1707 x306 or at aliya@3rdstyouth.org, as she will be leading the workshop.

Time: 8:30-4:30pm

Location: 1060 Tennessee Street  San Francisco, CA 94107

At the heart of the Alive & Free Prescription is the notion that violence is a social disease with an explicit treatment process. The disease is transmitted by the germs of bad information, bad instruction, bad advice, and bad example that to young people appear to be good. Youth are exposed to these germs via their families, peers and neighborhoods; and through music, television, video games, and movies. The disease appears as techniques for survival when, in fact, the opposite is true. Infected youth do not survive, they only learn how to die or go to prison. The Alive & Free Prescription works to change beliefs, attitudes, values and actions that promote violence.
